COMMON TUTORING QUERIES

Everything You Need to Know

WHY CHOOSE MATHBUD OVER OTHER TUTORING AGENCIES

I provide more than just tutoring and coach my students to new found success and confidence in their educational endeavors. My unique one-on-one approach involves a level of personalized mentorship and leadership elevating students in ways that extend far beyond successful math grades. The combination of my experience teaching math alongside my martial arts and military training have provided me a unique set of skills to mentor, guide, and inspire individuals in ways that other firms and tutors are not usually set up to accomplish.

Moreover, other agencies often deal with challenges related to tutor/teacher consistency, qualification, costs, scheduling, and personalization. As the sole owner and tutor at MathBud, I overcome all of these shortcomings while providing flexible scheduling at a competitive price and at the convenience of traveling to your home.

WHAT AGES DO YOU TEACH?

I teach all elementary and high-school levels as well as 1st and 2nd year University Engineering. There is no upper age limit to those I teach and the youngest could begin around 5 years old.

WHAT SKILL LEVELS DO YOU TEACH?

My services extend to all skill levels. This includes general tutoring & homework help, homeschooling, and even coaching high performing math students in preparations of competitions and other programs. I am also experienced in teaching a variety of individuals from different skills sets and limitations including those with learning disabilities.

WHAT SUBJECTS DO YOU TEACH?

Primarily, I teach Math as this is my main area of expertise, interest, and experience. This includes math content from the Ontario public school system, the Catholic school board, as well as assistance in courses found throughout private schools and other academically challenging programs such at the IB program (International Baccalaureate). I also tutor 1st and 2nd year University Engineering courses including Statics, Calculus, and Linear Algebra.

In addition to mathematics, I am also qualified to teach English as a foreign language. Depending on the material, grade level, and expectations, I am able to tutor Physics and English.

DO YOU HAVE A SPECIFIC TEACHING QUALIFICATION?

My full list of teaching qualifications and experience can be found under the "Experience & Credentials" menu tab. I've received extensive training and hold private certifications to teach mathematics in addition to holding a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license. I currently teach mathematics to both elementary and high-school students online with a math company and privately tutor through my business (MathBud) to individuals from Elementary up to University level courses.

Other pertinent teaching experience and qualifications include martial arts (Taekwondo and others) where I have taught classes to children and adults for over 12 years. Lastly, as a previous Officer for the Military Reserves for 5 years, I routinely led small party tasks, mentored individuals, and taught classrooms in accordance with the high standard of teaching training accomplished.

WHEN SHOULD MY CHILD GET A TUTOR?

Really, anytime! It may be a common misconception to think a tutor should be sought only when one is struggling with a subject. With the right tutoring, benefits can be seen anytime and at any level - whether to help those struggling, further elevate those doing well, or support those wishing to get ahead. In all cases, my tutoring style is such that my goal is more than just to help you improve your math skills or grades; it is to show you your capabilities, improve your confidence, and perhaps most importantly, your enjoyment of the subject. The positive benefits from achieving this cannot be overstated and will surely benefit ones view of other subjects and have a positive influence in mindset allowing new challenges to be overcome.

HOW CAN I PREPARE FOR A SESSION?

For the first time assessment/meeting, you don't need to prepare anything per-say. Simply be ready to have at least an hour with my in person, ideally in a well lit area with a table that is quiet, organized, and clean for our session together. Having at minimum a paper, pencil and eraser is also required. Depending on the recurring service type, then there may be additional things to have ready upon each visit such as homework completion. Such details would be discussed and confirmed during our first session.

WHERE DO YOU HOLD YOUR TEACHING SESSIONS?

For in-person sessions, I can travel to your home (London/surrounding areas) or if preferred, we can meet in a public setting such as a nearby library. For online sessions, we can use Zoom or Microsoft Teams.

HOW DO YOU CHARGE FOR YOUR TEACHING SERVICES?

Tutoring services may vary according to grade level, expectations, and exact needs. Please contact me to discuss further. Payments are made upon completion of service and can be done via e transfer.
